Ongoing Research

Our current research interests center around 4 main areas: (1) the role of peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes and anti-PAD immune responses in the pathogenesis of RA; (2) the effect of protein modifications in the selection of self-proteins as autoantigens in systemic autoimmune diseases; (3) natural antigen processing and identification of T cell epitopes in patients with rheumatic disease; and (4) pathogenic pathways that drive the profound female bias of autoimmunity.
